Fasching!

Luckily this week I have no school... I had such a long weekend! Erika had no school on Thursday, so she came to Ulm and I met up with her after I was done with school. Then we took the train together to Ehingen to visit Courtney. We got to meet her new host family and they are really nice. Her host mom asked me to sleep over and told me she would write me an excuse out of school on Friday! So on Thursday night we were fasching in Courtney’s city... I don’t know if I explained fasching yet, but that is the reason we have school off this week. It is pretty much their version of Halloween, they all dress up crazily and party non-stop all week. Friday afternoon, Erika and I went back to Ulm for a couple hours so I could talk to my hosts and get some clothes. Then we took a 3 hour train back to Erika’s. I stayed there on Friday and Saturday night and we were fasching in Switzerland which was really cool. Erika and Courtney both have really cool friends. On Sunday morning we took a train to Lindau, where Austin lives, and we stayed there for a couple hours and watched the big parade in his city. The parade in my city was a couple weeks ago, remember I posted pics? Well anyways, I took the train home from Lindau at about 4 and got home at like 5:30 or something... I took a shower and left the house again for one of my friends’ birthday parties. I was so tired so I didn’t stay out late. Now it is Monday morning and I dont know what I'm doing the rest of the week, but I'll update again before I go back to school. Oh and I'll post some pictures from the weekend within the next couple days.

Wow so it's kinda sorta like Mardi Gras... Cultural with a Christian intent but like a party right before lent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras
I just found out that alot of protestants celebrate lent and believe it or not, I did not know. I grew up Catholic and knew what lent was but when I joined the Baptist church, they have a different take on sacrifice and such and don't participate. So your story is very interesting and I enjoyed the link! I enjoyed your previous post too, and feel very updated! I can hardly believe it's been 5 months and can't wait to hear all about your Euro tour. Wow. You're going to come back and I'll introduce you to everyone as my so very "continental" niece! XOXOXOXO Take care.............
